PHP (PHP: Hypertext Preprocessor) What is PHP? PHP stands for PHP: Hypertext Preprocessor. It is a web development language written by and for web developers. The product was originally named Personal Home Page Tools. PHP is an open source, server side, HTML-embedded web scripting language usually used to create web applications in combinations with a web server, such as Apache. It enables the user to embed code fragments in normal HTML-page. It also makes the connection of a web page to server-side databases. It can also be used to create command-line scripts akin to Perl or shell scripts.   HTML-embeddedness PHP can be easily embedded within HTML-page. In other words, PHP pages are ordinary HTML pages that escape into PHP mode only when necessary. Web Server A Web Server can be defined as software that enables computer to deliver web pages written in html to client machine. Capabilities provided by a web server are: 1.        Security services 2.        FTP(File Transfer Protocol) 3.        Data capturing(Logs are maintained in web server) 1 Web server plays two roles static and dynamic. 1.        Static : A static web page is one that has been written once, like a word processing document, and then saved onto the web server. Static pages are created using tools like HTML, JavaScript, CSS and images.  2.         Dynamic : A dynamic web page is created on the fly. It doesn’t actually exist on the web server until a web browser requests it. When a request is made, web server runs whatever program will create the web page.
