I never gave thought on how
drastically people are changing. The only way I can see humanity being defined
is CART FULL OF HUSK – dry, emotionless, and ignite into blazes by spark of
information which can be fully or partially true or by one which has nothing to
do with the truth. Last night’s event shook me from within.
“Who bought her here?”-Shouted a
women shrieking voice, enough to make people near-by go deaf. Pitch high enough
to give complex to an Opera singer. “I am here to attend my best friend’s
marriage. She invited me.” Said the girl in low defensive voice. By now, people
gathered around the two. “Don’t you understand my daughter invited you out of
courtesy? You yourself should not have come here. You have Lung Cancer and it is
highly communicable, especially for those who breathe in same air.” I saw
people covering their nose and stepping back muttering among themselves that
how insensitive and careless she is towards other member of society.
My glance flew from the crowd
towards the girl being convicted. Oh my God! She is one of my close friends.
She was supposed to be one the most beautiful girls in our neighborhood. Chubby
cheeks, long beautiful hairs but all were gone. She was pale, skins-and-bones;
she must be under medications. After constant nagging, she left the venue in
tears.
Cancer is neither a communicable
disease nor a social stigma to be ashamed of. It is caused
by harmful changes (mutations) in genes. Only about 5 to 10 percent of cancers
are caused by harmful mutations that are inherited from a person’s parents. The
remaining 90 to 95 percent of cancers are caused by mutations that happen
during a person’s lifetime as a natural result of aging and exposure to
environmental factors, such as tobacco smoke and radiation.
Cancer
can be both prevented and cured. Indulging in physical activities, eating
right, maintaining right weight and not consuming tobacco products are some of
the preventions while early stage detection, timely and consistency in
treatment are few of the cures to name. Various government and non-government
organizations like YouWeCan are extending their hands for eradication of
cancer from its root. We also need to be compassionate and caring for the
person suffering from cancer. Social exclusion only adds to their miseries and
lowers their self-esteem.
